The Legend of the Mernians
Throughout the ages in countless cultures, man has searched shores, shells, and sea to hear their call. Nymphs, sprites, and mermaids they are named by dreamers who still gaze into the blue hoping for a glimpse of those elusive, enchanted faces. However, it is here, in scroll and stone, that the water people are finally revealed…
In the first days of the earth before ever there was land, there was water in the form of pond, stream, and sea. Before
the land dwellers, there was an enchanted realm that lay happily in peace under waters of both tiny ponds and
immeasurable seas. During that age, these waterfolk, who called themselves the Mernians, delighted in laughter,
love, and at life in the crashing waves. But as time passed, life became lonely, and they wished for something more
than their underwater sea caves. "Sights to see", they cried; new wonders to gaze upon, and so they struck a bargain
with their underwater sea sage. The wise, old sage gave them this choice in return for a sacrifice which he said
must be made…for a chance to see the lands above, their soul spirits would be encased in stone and bound to a human
in the hope that these land dwellers would take them to a new home full of kindness and love. It has now been ages
since the magical compromise, but never did the Mernians doubt the choice on which their new life was made. As
timeless as the stone that houses their happy souls, their kingdom will remain as long as there are those from the lands
above who have that special eye that always seeks the magic born from the sea. So have no worries about disturbing
these spirit stones, for taking these rock faces with you ensures their delight and merry cheer. And just as they find joy
with you in your home, it is certain that looking upon them will bring magic into your heart throughout the coming years.
